Yeah, time for a thread about it...
History was made today by a perfect game pitched by Humber. He seems like a very down to earth guy, he thanked God and his wife, and says he has a kid on the way.
Congrats to him.

Now, what do we do about our bats?

Our bats

We wait...and wait...and wait...for someone to live up to expectations.

I had a feeling this might happen. So I took this screenshot. What a joke.

yeah, I took that way before the shutout. I love how it says "aim to pickup the bats"... and we get shut out .

I wouldn't be mad if it happened against a great pitcher. Instead, its a journeyman who barely touches 92 and never had a complete game, until today.

Such a sad state this franchise is in.

I always thought that if I ever watched a perfect game, I'd enjoy it no matter whether my team was winning or losing.

Boy, was I ever wrong.

Me either if i was at the game i would have been slumped in my chair not giving a clapping ovation my team just got it's butt handed to them that's nothing to celebrate that's 2 night's in a row where the offense has gone MIA.

They were swinging at everything i couldn't believe it wether it was in the strike zone or not they all looked like Olivo for a day they made an average starter look like a CY Younger contender.

I would put a asterisk by the perfect game by the way Brendan Ryan was walked the umpire just gave the call to preserve the perfect game hopefully there is some way to punish him for doing this because it was the wrong thing to do.

Does anyone have a replay of the Ryan check swing? There doesn't seem to be one...

Well damn, that's as close as it gets. Could've gone either way, so not surprised at the ump covering his ass.

I actually think he was out, or very close, looking at those. Watch is entire back turn.

Looks to me like it could of gone either way and it looked more like he held it back enough.

I'm going to be completely honest, if we're going to lose, this is pretty damn cool. This was the first of who knows how few perfect games there will be in the future, that I was able to watch from start to finish. I have to say, it's pretty cool to me.

I got to see the last three outs because of stupid Fox, but yeah it was alright, I guess. Another one hit shutout would've just made the loss that much more painful to me. Now we can really just blame it on the pitcher being unhittable (hooray!).

Like Ms51 said, though. It would've been much cooler if it was a more notable pitcher. Like, say, Justin Verlander or someone of that stature.

I guess all I'm trying to say is it's a lot closer than people on Geoff Baker's blog are making it out to be. It could have gone either way in a normal game.

Here's to hoping tomorrow brings us good fortune.

I heard there are a bunch of people upset that the Seattle fans were cheering for this guy... I dont understand that, if I was there and witnessed history, I'd clap for the guy too. Only seems right. Sure your team sucked eggs to make it happen, but it did. Now let's move past this and try and focus on the next games at hand. To be upset with Seattle fans for cheering on the opposing pitcher, after a perfect game is stupid. IMHO.

I would never cheer for the other team. The last thing I want is a headline across the country that a pitcher abused the Seattle Mariners so bad that he did what only 20 other pitchers in history could do.

I have appreciation for what he did, but I would never root for the opposition regardless of the situation.

Well said i felt the same way it was so embarrassing to be a fan of this team on saturday guess i should get over it though this team will be probably no hit/perfect gamed again at some point the way this team is constructed.

I was absolutely infuriated that our fans were cheering him on towards the end of the game. Made me feel embarrassed with all the years I've invested in this team putting up with so many crap seasons and fans are going to root for a guy to embarass us on national television truly made me irate. Not only that, they were actually booing when the ump called a ball on Brendan Ryan. Good for the guy who threw the perfect game, but I'm not going to root for a guy to embarrass my team, that's ridiculous. Sure, you tip your cap to him afterwards, but cheering like it's Felix Hernandez on the hill about to complete a perfect game disgusted me.

Wait! So were our fans rooting for it to happen during the game or where they just applauding the mans performance after he did it?!? I will get on the side of rooting for the other team is NEVER an honorable thing to do, however, if the game was over and the guy did what only 20 other people in history have done, it should be acceptable to applaud his achievement... dontcha think?

Nah, I wouldn't be mad at that either. It was the fact that people were cheering the whole 9th and and rooting against Brendan Ryan that irritated the shit out of me.
