Something I'll try to compile every few days, news of what's happening around the organization, and so forth.

Former Mariners general manager Hal Keller has died at the age of 85 at his home in Sequim.

Keller, who served as Seattle's general manager in 1984 and '85, had been suffering from esophageal cancer. He also endured a lengthy battle with diabetes that resulted in the amputation of a foot.

As the Mariners' director of player development for four years, Keller oversaw the drafting and development of Alvin Davis, Mark Langston, Harold Reynolds, Phil Bradley, Spike Owen and Darnell Coles.

"Hal was kind of a father figure to us, and by 'us' I mean the young guys in the minor-league system at the time he was director," Davis said Tuesday. "Sometimes, you were interacting about contracts and money, but other times you were interacting about ball and about life in general. During that time, I learned that Hal was a very caring person. It was more than a job to him, and the players were more than just assets."

Left-hander Sean Henn, of Aledo, opted out of his contract with Triple-A Tacoma of the Seattle organization on Friday and will join the Hanwha Eagles of Korean League.

Henn, 31, appeared in 60 major-league games with four clubs: the New York Yankees, Baltimore, Minnesota and San Diego.

Hanwha plays in the centrally located city of Daejeon.

After chatting about the draft, I wanted to talk to Forrest about his current campaign. While explaining his growing pains, he dropped a bit of a news nugget on me.

"We're going to try somerthing new. I'm moving to the pen."

Snow pitched out of the bullpen in the Arizona Fall League before getting a crack at the rotation this season. He sees the move back to relief as one that could get him back on track to the bigs.

"It's a role that I had success in the fall league last year," he recalled. "Maybe that switch-up will help me get going in terms of throwing more strikes and being more aggressive."

Former major league baseballer Wladimir Balentien has been warned by his Japanese team the Yakult Swallows for updating his twitter account during a 10-0 loss.

Balentien, who has been in the midst of a prolonged slump, tweeted "I will never give up" just before the end of Monday's 10-0 loss to the Seibu Lions. He was sent to Yakult's minor league team on Tuesday.

Despite the slump, the 27-year-old former Seattle Mariners outfielder is leading the Central League in home runs with 12 and is second in the league with 25 RBIs.
