Players who are out of options for 2013 include the following: Mike Carp, Josh Kinney, Hector Noesi, Trayvon Robinson, and Casper Wells. These players, assuming they are in spring training with the Mariners next year, will have to make the opening day roster or be exposed to waivers.

There are others, too, but they are established major leaguers who we would never get sent to Tacoma, such as Jason Vargas.

Most of the members of the Mariners 40-man roster still have at least one option year remaining. Some of the surprises (to me) on the list include Justin Smoak, Eric Thames, and Carlos Peguero. Also, Alex Liddi has an option year.

It's going to be an interesting offseason (hopefully!!!!!!). I now see why Noesi was pitching out of the pen late this season. Casper and Carp... Going to be interesting to see how they deal with those situations. I have to think they've got to bring in a hitter, so thinking about potential positions, we've got what? First base, left field, right field. Maybe shortstop. Maybe center. Someone's going to have to go. We have a plethora of marginal everyday players next to a giant pile of players that are not everyday major leaguers on 25 of the 30 rosters. And money (hopefully!!!!!!). Hmmmmm.

We know we can't keep everyone that "may or may not" be a everyday MLB level player. We might let some go, and as usual they will turn things around somewhere else, but M. SAUNDERS put something new in the balance... A player can stay in Seattle and improve in an offseason... Let's make good choices try to keep the ones who can file a spot in the roster. I wanna see the C. WELLS we've seen the past serie, I wanna see the J. SMOAK of the last 3 weeks, I wanna see a healthy M. CARP, I wanna see a steping up D. ACKLEY, I wanna see a hard working T. ROBINSON make it too...

What I want most is that I don't want, when April 2013 ends, say should have "trade/keep" him.

I'm not that confident in C.PEGUERO, A. LIDDI, H. NOESI, I still don't know if we can have a healthy F. GUTIERREZ.

I'm also interested in the fact that we'll try to keep IWAKUMA and VARGAS.

A lot of transaction are about to begin... and we didn't even talk about FA...

You have to retain Iwakuma, he's been too good to let go. Gutierrez looks like is 2009 self, good sign. Peguero, Liddi, Flatball Noesi, I just don't see them contributing much to a team.

Agree on Iwakuma. You've got to do that deal.

Not in love with any of the out of option players listed above. I just wish the Free Agent class was better. We may have to wait more than a full calendar year to make a splash with this roster as much as I hate to say it.

Ah, it's this time of year again, huh?

Let's do something exciting, please. I don't want to see a Casper Wells/Mike Carp platoon the next two years between two AAAA players.

Interesting note from #Mariners' @JeffEvans .... Hector Noesi qualified for a fourth minor league option year.
