Who would it be? Who's #1 on your wishlist?

Melky Cabrera. He'll be cheap, he won't want a long-term albatross of a contract, and the evidence for an actual performance boost from steroids is sufficiently weak that we're probably not looking at much of a drop-off in his production from what he was putting up this year.

Love the Cabrera idea as well. Low risk high reward possibility. I'd say in terms of what is reasonable, he's near or at the top of my list. In terms of who's my number one if money and contract were not an issue, it's probably Zack Greinke. Of course, that doesn't make much sense for this team considering needs and payroll.
I'm not completely sold on Swisher or Upton (mostly due to what I think they will cost) and am not interested in Hamilton at all.
We need a slick trade and a decent FA signing.

This thread just reminds me what it was about last year... Who are you gonna pick ? Pujol or Prince... Not so sexy this year... But as Georgmi said could be interesting to go cheap and short, as FA this year won't ask as much as last year. Cabrera might be interesting but I don't know... pick someone who get caught cheating. Got a little problem with that. I'd rather pick M. Bourn
I'd prefere the M's try to improve via trades though.

Better somebody who's already been caught cheating and is under extra scrutiny to stay on the straight-and-narrow than somebody who hasn't been caught yet and you might lose for a third of the season.
Yeah, I'm cynical.

Huh. Jason Bay is now available, and would be damn near free with the Mets on the hook for $16M in '13. I don't like him *more* than Melky, but similar logic applies.

Erik Bedard is a free agent, let's offer him a $10,000,000 contract!
