The Mariners have yet to stop fighting the SODO arena proposal.

Hansen is proposing a $490 million basketball and hockey arena in Sodo, including $200 million in public money that would be repaid through revenue generated by the arena. On Monday, Hansen announced he had reached a deal to purchase the Sacramento Kings, pending NBA approval. Two lawsuits are challenging the financing and the location.

Melody McCutcheon, an attorney for the Mariners, said the streets allow access for emergency vehicles and the disabled, and for traffic in and out of the Mariners parking garage.

“The arena poses challenges,” she said. “There are competing needs for the streets.” She did say that representatives of Hansen’s had preliminary conversations with Mariners management to address the street-use issues as well as whether the Mariners parking garage could be shared with the new arena.

Anyone else furious with how the M's are handling this? Like a little kid who got spanked. So then they go grab Mr. black suit and tie to throw a lawsuit at the deal.

Very nice, Mariners. Just give more reasons for people to hate you even more.

I love the mariners, but not a big fan pf the front office execs (not including z and scott and a few others)

When i recently went for our season ticket tour i in no uncertain terms told the account manager to put a note in our record that i absolutely thought the mariners were going down the wrong road in fighting the arena location and that it would seriously impact future ticket purchases.

I now see that howard dis not get my message and will need to reiterate

I lost interest in the NBA ages before the Sonics left town, and I've never cared a bit about hockey (for that matter, I don't care about soccer, either, and barely pay attention to football--the last NFL game I watched even part of was Superbowl XL, and that was because I was at the in-laws' place and they were watching it). So as a fan, I'm pretty indifferent to the M's position, but as an economist, I love that both are coming back to town, and my mind boggles at the utter failure of the Mariners to realize that what is good for the community as a whole is good for them, and that the objections they're raising are both minor and solvable.
