Wow, if this is true, I don't even know how to react other than to say WTF.

I just don't get how you fall asleep during a professional baseball game?

Shannon Drayer wrote a response I think is pertinent:

I remember the interview she did with Ichiro in the off season where he was talking about Griffey napping. Honestly, I want him gone, but today's events have caused me to question whether or not that's unconditional. I don't think the napping thing is as big a deal as everyone (ESPN) is making it out to be, especially if he, as Drayer reports, has sleeping issues. The M's need to replace him, but I think it needs to be ceremonious- for him, and for us.
To tell the truth, the thing that annoyed me the most was finding out that it was probably Adam Moore that made the comment. He needs to check his stats before he goes ripping his own teammates in the media, and if he really didn't think this would be as big a deal as it has become, then he's more naive than I thought. LOL, dude's batting .170! Get this- his SLG% is .213!
My opinion: Adam Moore F'd up, not Griffey. Griffey needs to go though, I still believe that, but let him "retire", not have it come out in the news that you plan on forcing him to. Yikes. Like we need more bad PR!

This is disappointing, but yeah I agree with you. We need to send Griffey out with a proper ceremony. Let him ride into the sunset with a standing ovation and maybe he can stay with the team as some kind of assistant coach/cheerleader role. He is my all-time favorite player, but he needs to go before he ruins his legacy.

Also...where did you hear the comment was made by Adam Moore? I haven't heard anything about that.

Makes sense. I just hate to jump to conclusions about the guy. You never know, Larue might have just said it was a younger guy to further cover up for a veteran. It'll be interesting to see what happens the next few days.

Whoever did it may have done it thinking it was funny and more in joke humor. These are baseball players remember, not lawyers or speech pros.

Well, I just spent half an hour trying to find that quote, and I can't. I'm sick though, so I may have hallucinated it, but what I read was "looks like it was Moore who ratted Griffey". Could have been twitter, could have been another forum. Bad judgment on my part to run with that, that's pretty weak, I know. Sorry. Gonna go back to watching Dexter and taking out the rain forest one wad of tissue at a time. Cheers!
I will find and source that quote though. Just can't right now.

Adam Moore is kinda lame though... Suppose I can't hate both catchers... :o

Haha, I hate both catchers. Neither has good power, neither are great defenders. What should I like?

Now Sweeney is standing up for Griffey...says that he held a team meeting and told whoever went to the media to "stand up and fight me" and no one stood.

Yeah, looks like a rumor on Adam Moore. Mea Culpa. If Mike Sweeney can't force them out in a room full of people under the threat of an ass kicking...

Also, and honestly I think Mike Sweeney can be a bit cheesy sometimes, and granted I do want Griffey to retire soon if he can't hit- but that (players only team meeting throw down) did make me feel a bit better. Also I just read via Brock and Salk's twitter account that Cliff Lee in his post game presser refused to continue until Larry Larue left the room! No audio posted yet but they said it was on the radio this afternoon and will be again tomorrow.

I get pretty annoyed at all the soap opera stuff (ie. J.J. Putz calling out Ichiro after being traded etc.), but it is nice to hear the team rallying around their teammates... Even if it is Mike Sweeney asking the team if they'd like to get their ass kicked by a human teddy bear.

Also, I think that telling a reporter that your teammate was asleep during a game constitutes very bad common sense. What good can come of that, whoever thinks that's just some joke that's not going to turn into a huge ESPN headline is an idiot. My opinion.

I completely agree and I am sure if someone did say something, they meant it as a joke and it got out of hand.
