One of the season's biggest surprises so far, the Toronto Blue Jays (24-17) ride into Seattle after having gone 12-5 so far in the month of May. They are backed by one of the game's best young offenses, led by Blue Jay mainstay Vernon Wells. He is batting .316 and has cranked 11 homers so far this season. Their pitching has been a little below average, but their top AL offense carries them to victories.
The Mariners (14-25) are on a different end of the spectrum with their offensive offense. It ranks at the bottom of the AL, but even when they do manage to get 4 or 5 runs a game, the bullpen has blown most opportunities to win. It has been a depressing season so far to Seattle fans, and most are starting to lose all hope. The Mariners desperately need some wins on this upcoming homestand to keep the fans into the season. Whether they will actually come through or not remains to be seen, but so far in 2010 the Mariners haven't been coming through when they need to at all.
Pitching Matchups:
Brett Cecil, LHP (2-2, 5.46) vs. Doug Fister, RHP (3-1, 1.72)
Ricky Romero, LHP (4-1, 2.88) vs. Jason Vargas, LHP (3-2, 2.93)
Once again, I like the pitching matchups. However, with the way we're going right now I'm predicting a sweep by Toronto and we get closer to being sellers at the trade deadline. I sure hope I'm wrong.
