Moore to be recalled from Tacoma; Johnson sent down

Adam Moore will get a two-month audition as the Mariners' catcher of the future.

The Mariners will recall Moore from Tripe-A Tacoma and demote catcher Rob Johnson on Tuesday, according to a report from Shannon Drayer at 710 ESPN Radio.

Moore likely will step into the regular starter role and get a chance to show if his decent numbers from Tacoma will translate to the majors.

Moore was sent to Tacoma on June 26 for a rehab assignment after a long stint on the disabled list with heel and knee injuries. His rehab became a long-term arrangement.

He went 2-for-4 with a double and a homer Sunday in the Rainiers' 3-2 loss to Reno. In 36 games at Tacoma this season, he is hitting .321 with three homers and 15 RBIs. In 19 games with the Mariners, he is hitting .193 with a homer and four RBIs.

Johnson is hitting .191 with two homer and 13 RBIs for the Mariners. He has also struggled defensively.

I really hope Moore shines and takes the number one catcher spot. He looked like he was starting to come around right before his injury and he has always been a solid prospect. I hope he wins the job going into next season and keep Johnson's ass in Tacoma.
