It's official.

The Tacoma Rainiers might be going to Safeco Field.

Should the Rainiers make the Pacific Coast League playoffs – and they enter play on Monday in first place in the PCL North Division with a 3½ game lead over Salt Lake – the Rainiers will play "home" games at Safeco Field in Seattle because of construction at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma.

The Mariners and Rainiers made the announcement today.

The $26.5 million remodel of Cheney Stadium will begin in earnest after the Rainiers’ last home game on Sept. 2. The PCL regular season ends on Sept. 6, and the playoffs would begin Sept. 8 at the PCL South Division winners.

The playoffs are a best-of-five format with the PCL North hosting games 3, 4 and 5, if necessary. The Rainiers would play at the home of their parent club, the Mariners, on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. The other games, if necessary, would be at noon on Sept. 11, and 7 p.m. Sept. 12.

Tickets cost $25 for seats in the first 20 rows of the 100, or lower, level, and $20 for the remaining rows of the 100 level, and will go on sale at 10 a.m. Sept. 4. Tickets can be purchased at www.tacomarainiers.com, at the Rainiers' offices or by calling 253-752–7707.

They are also available for purchase through the Mariners box office and at www.mariners.com.

Gates at Safeco will open two hours before games. Parking is available in the Safeco Field garage and surrounding areas. For more information, see www.tacomarainiers.com.
