My dear General:

I do not remember that you and I ever met personally. I write this now as a grateful acknowledgment for the almost inestimable service you have done the country. I wish to say a word further. When you first reached the vicinity of Vicksburg, I thought you should do, what you finally did --march the troops across the neck, run the batteries with the transports, and thus go below; and I never had any faith, except a general hope that you knew better than I, that the Yazoo Pass expedition, and the like, could succeed. When you got below, and took Port-Gibson, Grand Gulf, and vicinity, I thought you should go down the river and join Gen. Banks; and when you turned Northward East of the Big Black, I feared it was a mistake. I now wish to make the personal acknowledgment that you were right, and I was wrong.

Yours very truly A. Lincoln

Wait! Wrong Lincoln! This thread is for Howard Lincoln. I was just browsing the web and I ran into a really really good blogpost by Megan of Section331.com regarding the Geoff Baker post (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/marinersblog/2012845879_mariners_ceo_howard_lincoln_to.html). Megan's blogpost can be found here. (http://section331.com/2010/09/09/finally-something-to-talk-about/) She makes some good points about Howard Lincoln and has similar feelings about the email as I do.

I'll quote some of her points that I think are important:

These people put together a winning team out of the ashes of 2008, added a few key pieces that should not have failed, and turned 2010 right back into 2008, adding the cherry on top of letting the players run amok and get their own manager fired (yes, I am still not happy about the lack of Don Wakamatsu in Seattle).
Completely agree! I doubt anyone on this forum was "thrilled" that Wakamatsu got fired. He was the scapegoat for C, H and Z. The letter goes on to say that they're putting together "entertaining" team. Exactly how, unless it is a comical entertainment?

I will take a moment to assume that “media” also refers to bloggers, as blogs are indeed a form of media. Blogs, however, are also written by fans of this team, and their opinions mirror a pretty large number of other fans’ opinions, fans who don’t blog. So basically, Lincoln is saying he doesn’t give a damn about the opinions of Mariners fans. Thanks, Howie.
Another good point. The blogs he is talking about are run by FANS and NEWSPAPERS and usually it's not a good idea to slam your fans or your newspapers. That can end up turning pretty ugly. Granted, Lincoln probably didn't expected this letter to get published in the Seattle Times, but it did, and he should expect fan/blog/newspaper backlash from it.

I love Zduriencik, and have even gone as far as to tell some friends that if anything happens to him during the offseason, if he is allowed to take the fall for this season, I will not be purchasing season tickets next year. The people that Lincoln is addressing are the people that help make Mariners games worth going to.

I don't think I need to add anything to this. It is again true. I don't go to mariners games to go sit next to people who go collect bobbleheads and don't even know Ichiro's last name. I go to the games to try and find people who enjoy discussing, writing, talking and blogging about the Mariners.

Thanks for digging this up. Fantastic points made by the person. Lincoln is an idiot pure and simple. Always has been. He is the real one that needs to go.

She has one of the better Mariners blogs on the web. I'd recommend checking it out.

I laughed out loud when I read the letter the first time. HILARIOUS. The dugout fight, bradley's meltdown, "sleepgate", wak's firing, and the Lueke blunder made this season a total circus. THIS I think makes a "circus" almost an understatement. I'd like to update the analogy a bit. I'm reminded of this-
This sums up the Mariners 2010 season for me:

What a laughable response! "Everyone in the media is retarded! Oh! Not you guys!" Thiel nailed it in that article.
