i moved to aberdeen wa from montana in 2005 but i just really never got around to getting involved in baseball (again).
i was born many many years ago as a red sox fan by default. my mother was from boston and my grandmother had an antique shop on brookline ave. she would take me walking past fenway and i could hear the crowd.
in 1961 i was living in new jersey and became a yankee fan because my dad was. it was how we connected. i went to many games at yankee stadium, wrote stories for them, and met a lot of them. that was from ages 14-18 when i moved to france (where they don't really have baseball!). my favorite player was clete boyer (3rd base).
in 1993 i got interested again when i lived in denver and the rockies were born. my son at that time was 7 and it didn't take long to get him addicted. we went to every rockies game we could, both at mile high stadium and at coors field, which we watched being built. i still have a baseball with signatures of pretty much the whole club. my favorite player was dante bichette. in 1998 we moved to montana and i pretty much lost touch with baseball.
last fall my son visited me from l.a. (he now bleeds dodger blue) and he got me interested again. i spent the off season reading every baseball book i could get my hand on and also watched 'ken burns baseball' which is truly amazing.
by spring i was ready and i am now a truly obsessed mariner fan. i bleed dark cyan.
my favorite player is brandon league but i also expecially love iciro, ackley, olivo, gutierrez, ryan, felix, michael, well that's probably most of the team isn't it?
