Default Mariners at Rays May 14th-16th Series Preview

The Mariners (13-21) are coming off an awful beginning to their road trip losing 2 of 3 to the AL's worst team, the Baltimore Orioles. The third game looked to be in the bag for the Mariners, but a Brandon League implosion would cost the team the series. Seattle's task doesn't get any easier as they go from the AL's worst team to the AL's best so far. The Rays (24-10) have the best record in the AL and look to improve on it when the Mariners come into town. They are coming off a 6-3 west coast road trip, which included a dominating series sweep at Seattle.

    Pitching Matchups:

Doug Fister, RHP (2-1, 1.71) vs. Wade Davis, RHP (3-2, 3.18)
Jason Vargas, LHP (3-2, 3.00) vs. James Shields, RHP (4-1, 3.13)
Cliff Lee, LHP (1-1, 2.01) vs. Matt Garza, RHP (5-1, 2.49)

To be honest, I like the pitching matchups in this series, but I just have no faith in my Mariners. They have found so many ways to lose games on the road this season it's just heartbreaking to watch. Hopefully they will suprise us this weekend against a great Tampa Bay team.

Yeah, this is going probably be rough. I agree with you on the pitching match ups, on paper (maybe with the exception of game 2) they couldn't be better. I'll be interested to see if hyphen takes his turn after his last performance or if they call up French, who has been pitching well in AAA.
Saunders and Langerhans have given us all a reason to tune in. Figgins needs to figure out what his problem is. How do you lead the team in walks and punch outs? Something's off, and when he does get it figured out, and he will, this team will look a lot better. Hoping Death To Flying Things comes back from those back spasms soon!!! Need him more than ever.

Ditto that statement. Looks like we're gonna take Game 1. Tomorrow's game with Vargas will be tough as heck.

Always nice to beat one of the best teams in baseball on their home field and see some homers from our team. What is that, six in the last two days? Who would've thunk it? I don't see us winning again today as Vargas is due for a let down game and Shields has always dominated us. Who knows though, baseball is a crazy game. Maybe they'll surprise me again when I get a chance to look at the score late tonight.

Yep, that is 6 home runs in 2 days. Keep Sweeney as DH and maybe this will continue.

I think the mariners are going to start getting serious soon and winning games! I hope anyway :P.

Would be awesome if they won all their games this week

I dont think so. They just suck too much. I'm in the "sell this freaking team" boat right now.
