    Default Phillies scouting Lopez?

Makes sense since their second baseman (Utley) and third baseman (Polanco) just went on the DL.

    YES PLEASE!!!
(We'll take that scruffy loser Werth off your hands - straight up... We'd also accept a player to be named later and cash considerations... or name your price!)

I hear they have a pretty good pitcher whom Cliff Lee *really* wanted to pitch back-to-back with in a World Series...

As much as I hate Lopez and his approach to the plate, he is one of the few who has some power. Right now we need more power, not less of it.

In all seriousness- I would love to see Jose Lopez gone, but I don't see the Phillies trading for him. For me personally, I would not see him as any big loss. I see him more as a liability whose power (or really, lack there of- 5 hr, SLG% .336) would be easily replaced in the off season. His plate discipline, as JosephC pointed out, sucks ass- and although he's surprised me for the most part at 3rd base with defense- he's still a player I don't see starting on any championship caliber team in Seattle. His team only option at the end of the year, however, is relatively cheap at 5 million for 2011, so if he continues to improve or goes on a tear, I'd prededict that he starts 2011 at 3rd base in Seattle for lack of a better/affordable option.

After I wrote that I read that Chase Utley is having surgery and is expected to miss 5-6 weeks... Make the deal!

Also, Baker speculates that Tui could come back up and play 2nd or 3rd if this happened. That would suck, but then again, I've resigned myself to a lost season and looking at the future. Still want to watch and go to games though, and Tui is an f'n nightmare.

Oh gosh, Tui playing third could be a disaster. But if it brings us a good prospect, let it be done.

    Ken_Rosenthal via twitter:

Another option for #Phillies: #Mariners' Jose Lopez. Sources say M's trying to move Lopez. Phillies exec Benny Looper prev with Sea #MLB
As long as "sources" aren't Baker, could be more to this than Geoff's wishful thinking...

I can't imagine we'd get all that much for Jose Lopez in a deal. I'd hope we'd be able to get someone like Sebastian Valle, a catching (and no relation to Dave Valle, thank God) prospect in Single-A, or Antonio Bastardo, a late reliever whose bounced between AAA and the Phillies before going on the DL in June.
