Erik Bedard scratched from Tuesday start with shoulder stiffness

    Posted by Geoff Baker

Well, those of you hoping to see Erik Bedard pitch tomorrow night, you're going to be sorely disappointed. Not as sore or disappointed as Bedard himself, though. After his last bullpen session, his shoulder felt stiff and sore. Sort of the way it had in the past when he's had setbacks.

He's seeing the team doctor right now and we should have some type of update later on. But for now, he's not making tomorrow's start.

"He says he's still feeling a little bit of discomfort in his shoulder,'' Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu said moments ago. "It kind of creeped up on him in his last bullpen. We're going to have him re-evaluated by the doctor today and we should know a little more later on this afternoon.''

Ryan Rowland-Smith will start tomorrow instead, with the rest of the rotation falling into place.

Wakamatsu said the team is hopeful Bedard's injury is nothing serious and that the pitcher can be reassured about his ability to continue to pitch in the near future. "It's a little bit of what he experienced before. A little stiffness in his shoulder. I think, rather than jump right into the start, hopefully it goes away.''

Yeah, well I am going to that game, and I beg to differ (again) Mr. Baker! I'm not getting a multi-million dollar base salary to ice my damn shoulder and hang out in the dugout!..... That, my friends, is called bitterness.
Oh well, Hyphen has been pitching better, they're great seats (thanks JosephC)- Greinke is pitching and is having an off year. So, seeing a Cy Young winner is always a treat, and beating him would be even better.

God damn it Erik, stop jerking us around and either get healthy or hang up the cleats.

Bedard threw today and felt discomfort. Seen by Dr Yocum, no report back yet

Bedard and Yocum must be the best of buddies by now.

F*** You Erik Bedard. Look, you seem like a nice enough guy and all, but why did you have to jerk us along like this in the first place?

Erik Bedard says he's "probably not" going to pitch this season

    Posted by Geoff Baker

The team is keeping tight lips on the results of Erik Bedard's MRI exam. But the fact that he is consulting with both his surgeon, Dr. Lewis Yocum, and the Mariners' medical director, Dr. Edward Khalfayan, is a tipoff that the news can't have been great.

In fact, right after the game, as Bedard was about to hurriedly exit the clubhouse, I asked him whether there was any good news from the exam.

    "No, not really,'' he said.

When I asked him what the exam found, he said "You'll have to ask the doctor.''

As he was walking out the door, I asked whether it looks like he's going to pitch at all this season. He replied "Probably not.''

    That's when he left.

So, there goes another potential "feel good" story in an otherwise lost season for the M's. You have to feel for Bedard, who has put in a ton of work to get back out on a mound after his surgery, but just can't shake the irritation in his shoulder.

That blows. Just another kick in the sack by the 2010 Seattle Mariners. Way to have us give up on 2011 too.

He was only signed for 2010 with an option for 2011, which most likely wouldn't have beene exercised if he was healthy, no? So this could actually be a good thing if we do end up getting a HEALTHY bedard in 2011. Why do I feel like an idiot for putting Healthy and Bedard in the same sentence?
