Mariners sign Hulett to minor league deal

The Mariners have signed utility infielder Tug Hulett to a minor league contract and assigned him to AAA Tacoma, the team announced on Tuesday.

Hulett, 27, was with the Pawtucket Red Sox (AAA) batting .201 (57x284) with 21 doubles, two triples and four home runs in 86 games. He was released by the Boston Red Sox on Aug. 7.

Hulett made his Major League debut with the Mariners in 2008, batting .224 in 30 games. He was claimed off waivers by the Royals prior to the 2009 season and appeared in 15 games for Kansas City last season.

Hulett was acquired by Seattle from Texas in exchange for Ben Broussard on Dec. 12, 2007. He was originally selected by the Texas Rangers in the 14th round of the 2004 June draft out of Auburn University. He is the son of former Major Leaguer Tim Hulett (current manager of the Spokane Indians)

I was going to try not to be cynical, so I think I'll go with "cynically playful" and suggest that this move is just a part of the larger Choo for Broussard trade. See, we knew Hulett wasn't ready. The prophecy foretold all of this. These fools are just playing into our hands! Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
