Default Give Me Your 25-Man Roster for 2011

Because every time I watch the 2010 version of the Mariners, I die a little inside.

    C - Adam Moore
1B - Justin Smoak (better than Jesus Montero!)
    2B - Dustin Ackley
SS - Jack Wilson (Let's see if along with that finger, he can break .250 next year)
3B - Chone Figgins (He's been at 2nd about 127 games too long)
    LF - Michael Saunders
    CF - Franklin Gutierrez
    RF - Ichiro
DH - Milton Bradley (Because what other choice do we have?)

SP - Felix Hernandez (really up for grabs, right?)
    SP - Jason Vargas
    SP - Michael Pineda
    SP - Doug Fister
    SP - Blake Beavan/Ryan Rowland-Smith

RP - I'd bet this spot goes to a Rule 5 pick
RP - Anthony Vavaro (opponents are batting .200 against him in 46 games)
    RP - Josh Leuke
    RP - Dan Cortes
    LR - Brian Sweeney
SU - Brandon League (people can complain about the Morrow deal all the want, but he's our best reliever)
    CL - David Aardsma

    BENCH - Matt Tuiasosopo
BENCH - Josh Wilson (Super Sub!)
BENCH - David Winfree (former Yankees prospect putting up great numbers in Tacoma, .319 with 9 homers, 39 RBIs in 51 games)
BENCH - Guillermo Quiroz (why the hell not?)

Come on Phred, Bobby Ayala Jr? That's a tad harsh, considering he's given up 1 earned run in his last 17 outings.

even ayala had periods of being good. if i had a choice between ayala or league, i'd take ayala every time. in fact of all the mariner relievers i have seen over the past 30+ years i would take everyone but edwin hurtado and gene harris over league

white was definitely bad, but we only had to put up with him for 5-6 games

That was hilarious. To those of us that actually watched Bobby Ayala pitch, there's no greater dis. He was an absolute CHOKE job. When he pitched well, it was when he didn't need to. If anything was on the line, he was a total joke. My first memories of screaming at a television were at Bobby. He may have been ok sometimes, but there's a reason why he's synonymous with failure in Seattle. Gene Harris is before my time. I had to look him up. He pitched his last game in Seattle the year before I started "really" watching ("really" being not going to the Kingdome exclusively for the treats and the 4 Ken Griffey Jr. ABs).

I would NOT take him over League. LOL! No F'n way. I'd maybe take him in the one good year he had with the M's, but everything else was absolute crap. Hurtado? Oh my. Memories. League has been streaky. He's been terrible, but he's also been dominant. If you look at the numbers, DA's right. He's basically been our best reliever, which is hard to believe when I think about him giving up grand slams and getting nobody out.

Here's my projected roster. I'm going to rosterbate a little here. I can't stand to assume we won't make any moves.

    C - Adam Moore
    1B - Justin Smoak
    2B - Reid Brignac
    SS - J.J. Hardy/Jack Wilson (seat filler)
    3B - Chone Figgins
    LF - Michael Saunders
    CF - Franklin Gutierrez
    RF - Ichiro
    DH - Russell Branyan

SP - Felix Hernandez (really up for grabs, right?)
    SP - Jason Vargas
    SP - Michael Pineda
    SP - Doug Fister
SP - Aq. via trade. Too broad to even speculate.

    RP - Trade/Waiver/FA
    RP - Trade/Waiver/FA
RP - Mauricio Robles (conv. starter)
    RP - Josh Leuke/Dan Cortes
    LR - Brian Sweeney
SU - Brandon League (people can complain about the Morrow deal all the want, but he's our best reliever)
    CL - Josh Leuke/Dan Cortes

    BENCH - Uncle Milty
    BENCH - Matt Mangini
    BENCH - Tui
    BENCH - Josh Bard

God, that's ugly. I have to hope that Jack does something to shock and awe me, because of the pick ups, trades, and call ups that I could come up with that seemed reasonable (I put Nick Franklin on the bench at first, then decided that was a bit fast) the above could barely be called a marginal improvement. This would be an opening day roster. He's going to need a bat to save his job. Said bat is not included in my roster because whatever outlandish ideas I came up with (Like Adam Dunn), I have a feeling it'll be something I hadn't even considered. I have to hope Figgy is done at 2nd. Put the guy back at third. Lopez is gone. Jack Wilson... Man, at this point I'm almost wishing we'd paid him the 10 million this season so I'd know he'd be gone next season. The thought of handing him another 5 million and then trotting his gimpy hacking butt out there on opening day... Yikes.
The fact is that without an impact bat in the line up, we have only a marginal less than zero chance to be an average team. I just don't know where it's coming from. I have a feeling, and a hope that this will be an interesting winter.

harris was on there because he was traded to the mariners with randy johnson and brian holman as the big part of the deal for langston. then harris flat out refused to play for us so we had to suspend him for it.

My first memory of screaming at the TV was watching Roy Corcoran pitch... I lost a couch one of those games from anger.
